Story

Following a sold-out, extended run at The Public Theater, Suffs arrives on Broadway — and not a moment too soon. From the singular mind of Shaina Taub, this “remarkable, epic new musical” (Variety), boldly explores the victories and failures of a struggle for equality that’s far from over.

It’s 1913 and the women’s movement is heating up in America, anchored by the suffragists — “Suffs,” as they call themselves — and their relentless pursuit of the right to vote. Reaching across and against generational, racial, and class divides, these brilliant, flawed women entertain and inspire us with the story of their hard-won victory in an ongoing fight. So much has changed since the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment over a century ago, and yet we’re reminded sometimes we need to look back, in order to march fearlessly into the future.

Emotional
"I have been attending theater performances all of my life. I’ve seen over 100 at least and this performances was one of the most emotional performances I’ve experienced. It truly brought tears to my eyes. Perhaps it’s due the the political happenings of the time where women’s rights are being clawed back by controlling, caucasian, out-of-touch, men and/or that I’m old enough to appreciate the fights that women have had to endure to continue to achieve their rightful place in society. I am so appreciative of the work, women, who came before me, have done to let me enjoy the rights that we have today. ALL women and young girls should see this play in all its glory. It is an Outstanding play and the music, acting and staging is Top Notch. Congrats on this achievement!! Keep the fight alive…"

A show that should go on
"I feel the show was both very entertaining and thought provoking. The only negative is that it has now closed. I heard that it is being filmed for PBS and believe that that is an excellent decision so that it will live on."

A must see for our time.
"I read the book. The musical is a vivid interpretation of the story of the success of the Suffragettes. The author got it so right. This is a must- see musical for all generations, especially young ones. I was lucky to see it in NY. I hope there will be a traveling company so more people can enjoy the production. "
