Following a sold-out, extended run at The Public Theater, Suffs arrives on Broadway — and not a moment too soon. From the singular mind of Shaina Taub, this “remarkable, epic new musical” (Variety), boldly explores the victories and failures of a struggle for equality that’s far from over.
It’s 1913 and the women’s movement is heating up in America, anchored by the suffragists — “Suffs,” as they call themselves — and their relentless pursuit of the right to vote. Reaching across and against generational, racial, and class divides, these brilliant, flawed women entertain and inspire us with the story of their hard-won victory in an ongoing fight. So much has changed since the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment over a century ago, and yet we’re reminded sometimes we need to look back, in order to march fearlessly into the future.
"Learned more about the story of the Suffragists that I didn’t know and the songs and singing were wonderful! Such an unbelievably talented group of women in this production!"

"The book, staging, singing, dancing, acting, costumes were all sensational. How thrilling it was to finally learn about the women’s movement. I’m embarrassed it took this long to learn abut the suffrigists as I am a very senior citizen. I just brought my 50 year old daughter to the show and I saw it a second time. It was thrilling. Regarding children at the show I think this show is appropriate for teenagers."

"I learned a lot about what all it took over many years for women to finally get the right to vote. I loved the music which told the story in sometimes funny, sometimes poignant ways. I loved the all female cast, particularly amusing was the portrayal of President Woodrow Wilson. The song that spoke of the little girl with the big voice reminded me of my granddaughter. I wondered what rights for women will she have to fight for? The last song is a reminder that the work is not really done!
This show was very thought provoking, especially in light of the recent election where we did not elect a female president of the United States.
The costumes were beautiful.
The cast was inclusive, at least a couple of actors were women with disabilities.
Themes of generational differences, racial biases, a lesbian relationship, and certainly sexual inequality occurred in the show. This show has given me lots to ponder.
The last song was emotional and inspirational. While I can’t say that I gave my life for the cause of women’s rights, I hope that I can say that I didn’t stand in the way."
