Following a sold-out, extended run at The Public Theater, Suffs arrives on Broadway — and not a moment too soon. From the singular mind of Shaina Taub, this “remarkable, epic new musical” (Variety), boldly explores the victories and failures of a struggle for equality that’s far from over.
It’s 1913 and the women’s movement is heating up in America, anchored by the suffragists — “Suffs,” as they call themselves — and their relentless pursuit of the right to vote. Reaching across and against generational, racial, and class divides, these brilliant, flawed women entertain and inspire us with the story of their hard-won victory in an ongoing fight. So much has changed since the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment over a century ago, and yet we’re reminded sometimes we need to look back, in order to march fearlessly into the future.
"From the moment the performers belted out "Please Let my Mother Vote", the opening and signature number in the show, we were hooked on this production. We learned so much about the history behind the right to vote movement. And these characters put so much passion into their performances that the audience was captivated and mesmerized. I know we were riveted with every new number.
The other thing that was so significant about this play was its references to prejudice and racism around the original Women's Sufferage March in 1913 and the ongoing concerns from African American women about prejudice as the last state to ratify the 19th Amendment, Tennessee, voted .
Don't wait! Get on your phone or laptop now and rush to this incredible show. "

"I loved Suffs! The music and story line were incredible. It was cool to see the conflicting story lines between the different factions of the movement. The characters and events were inspiring. I like going into shows without having listened to the soundtrack, however I could still understand the songs and I was able to follow to the story line even though it was my first time listening to the music. "Wonderful music, great voices, historic rendition, moving and with what can be described as references to today’s political scene.
Go. You won’t be disappointed. Well, you might be disappointed in the size of the seats and leg room which were meant for people alive around the turn of the century. "

"This musical showed the history of the suffragist movement in twentieth-century America, warts and all. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, but mostly I felt inspired to carry on the fight for women's rights in the twenty-first century. I saw it with a senior sister social activist, and to a large extent we felt like it was speaking to us and our life-long struggle for equity for all."

"I loved everything about this play- the story, the music, the voices, and the acting. This play is the reason we came to NYC and it did not disappoint. It was the highlight of our trip. Nothing to suggest for a better experience. What a story and what a cast. I love that the story was told, warts and all. "

"I loved the theme, the music, the actresses and most of all the energy shown in the play. It was inspiring.
It's a story that is needs to be told and explained to younger generations of women who do not really realize or appreciate the sacrifices that many women had to go through to simply get their
rightful votes... from men. "
