About The Outsiders

The winner of the Tony Award® for Best Musical is The Outsiders. This classic coming-of-age story takes you to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1967, where Ponyboy Curtis, his best friend Johnny Cade, and their family of Greaser “outsiders” dream about who they want to become in a world that will never accept them. The Outsiders features a “tuneful and soul-bearing” (New York Stage Review) original score, “high-octane choreography” (New York Magazine), and a “sensational young cast” (The Wall Street Journal) that brings the show to life.

Social Class
"The show did highlight class differences in this society and showed the cruelty of the rich which is most often censored in media coverage."

Saw 7 shows this week and this was the one i enjoyed the least.
"As an English teacher, I teach the novel to high school freshmen. In general, they like the book. I never formed an emotional connection with the characters on stage. Something was missing. I saw Othello, Gypsy, A Streetcar Named Desire, Sunset Boulevard, & Juliet, and The Great Gatsby along with a Friday night performance of The Outsiders. I was disappointed. "

A Solid B
"The choreography is absolutely outstanding. The plot, for the most part, is a variation on West Side Story, set in Middle America in the late 1960’s. It wasn’t until the end of the first act that I found myself impressed by the show. The second act was better. Overall, it’s a good show, but not a great show if you’re over 30. What makes it unique are the special effects. See everything else you want to see first, then see The Outsiders. "

Not my cup of tea
"Outsiders is ok. No memorable songs. A couple good performances. Choreography good, especially rumble. Great seat but low value for money spen compared to other shows that I saw this week."

The story line is too sad for my taste.
" The performance was excellent. The story too dark for my liking. The songs were ok. Excellent job on acting and singing! "

Better shows out there
" Has some usual effects fire, rain, gravel stage. The singer who played Cherrie was the best. The dancing was good and creative. I do think there are more exciting shows out there that I would recommend before The Outsiders. This show was not for me. "

Visuals and effects are so cool
"Really liked the rumble scene, beautiful choreography. Many characters were not consistent with the book, but the show was good. And some of the effects were really cool. "
