Haunted by her memories and dreams, movie star Norma Desmond yearns to return to the big screen. A struggling screenwriter who can’t sell his scripts to the Hollywood studios may be her only hope, until their dangerous and captivating relationship leads to disaster. Drenched in champagne and cynicism, Sunset Boulevard focuses the lens on the ambitions and frustrations of its characters and puts their intoxicating need for fame and adoration in stark close-up.
"The orchestra, singers and dancers were excellent. The staging is among the worst that I have seen. "

More Hype than Show
"The cinematography was excellent. The show was not-just a lot of hype and exagagerated acting. The prior broadway rendition was much better."

Save your money
"We thought we would be seeing something really good since it was an Andrew Lloyd Webber production but it was not good. It was a dark stage actors popping in and out of the dark and weird camera affects on a screen. The only thing that was good about the production was the singing. We left at intermission "

Intentionally Flat
"If the deadpan acting was a choice it didn’t work. It came across like nobody showed up for work except Norma. Low energy."

Nauseatingly Melodramatic
"The start of the second set was the best part of the show. Slow paced, really did not like the rearrangement all aspects of the show."

Left at intermission
"Obviously a lot of people like this show. I love then movie. But the format, setting, and pacing just did not agree. All the singing voices are superb, so there’s that. Was so happy when intermission came so I could leave without disturbing my fellow theater goers!"

what were they thinking?
"Nicole Scherzinger is excellent but too beautiful for the role- other than that, knowing the show as well as I do- I was saddened to see it dragged down. It seemed to be watching itself be smart- too bad- it's not. My colleague and I left at intermission."

Not the play to see if you like a deep plot
"The plot is as thin as I've ever seen. It's painfully long for the message they were trying to convey. The main character delivers a strong performance, but it's relatively easy given her cast mates. "

Not for me!
"The talent was definitely there. The lead characters had talent and passion. But, Not entertaining at all. Dismal. No set design, no costume changes. Everyone in black and white the entire show. I want to be entertained in a more upbeat manner. Almost walked out early. I guess I chose the wrong show!"

The slooooooowest story ever!!
"The cast is amazingly talented…but, the storyline is SLOW, the songs are SLOW, even their speech is SLOW…the “atmosphere” is black and white…No color, practically no dance…the show unfortunately just drags on and on and on…We are avid Broadway fans but we really, really struggled to get through this very long show. Again, it’s nothing against the cast, who are very very talented. The problem is ALL the rest of the factors."

Blair Witch Project meets Andrew Lloyd Weber…not in a good way
"There were no sets, no costumes, and uncomfortably close closeups with hand held cameras. I enjoy the abstact but this was so abstract it actually detracted from Nicole’s talent to the point that I didn’t enjoy it. Sorely disappointing "

Was this really Sunset Boulevard?
"I was really looking forward to this production. I was disappointed.
Nicole Scherzinger has a great voice; she's about 20-30 years too young for Norma Desmond. She looks younger than Joe Gillis. She even looks as young as her "younger" self. For me, having smoke on stage for the entire production was a distraction. The only emotion displayed was when Norma sang her songs. Otherwise, blank, unemotional faces were on display by all the actors. Having two episodes captured by a hand held camera and broadcast on the screen of a single tear falling down a cheek is not acting. Hand held cameras can be used effectively for dramatic effect when used judicially but here, for me, they became a cliche after so many instances. All the actors had good voices and I enjoyed the music. I like reimagined works, however, for this production for me, it didn't work. "
