The party's roaring on Broadway! The Great Gatsbyis a “great, big Broadway extravaganza that explodes with life and energy” (Entertainment Weekly). Directed by Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), this story of extravagance and longing features choreography by Dominique Kelley (So You Think You Can Dance), a book by Kait Kerrigan (The Mad Ones) and a jazz- and pop-influenced original score by Jason Howland (Little Women) and Nathan Tysen (Paradise Square).
"Actors talented and working hard. But music and lyrics were not interesting or memorable. Loved the costumes and choreography.
Show and dialogue too over the top and dramatic."

Too loud
"Liked the scenery, costumes and dancing. Didn’t like how loud everything was — voices, orchestra, and even the singing. Too loud to understand most of the lyrics. You should have subtitles so audience can understand the lyrics. It’s a shame that they are wasted because the singers are miked and do not enunciate clearly."

Not so Great Gatsby
"Some performers were excellent but others needed to be much stronger in their performances. Dancers worked hard but seemed disjointed."

Disappointing
"The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite novels. It does not work as a musical, however; it loses the essence of the story, the tragedy of the "lost generation." The score was also rather unforgettable; I rarely leave a show without at least one song running through my head for a few days; but not this time. I can't say I even remember a song from this show, which I saw yesterday. The cast was very talented, particularly the dancers, but chemistry was lacking. Tom Buchanan and Myrtle gave the most memorable performances in the show. The costumes were lovely to look at, and the set was well done!

Meh…
"The sets were amazing, the costumes were beautiful and the few major dance numbers were fun but overall, the show was slow and predictable and a little boring. "

I think they had AI write the songs
"Ok the set was amazing and Jordan Jeremy + Eva Noblezada were AMAZING. But the music was so bad and the story was insanely confusing for someone who didn’t read the book.
Now, my husband is a HS English teacher and he teaches the book each year. He didn’t like the way they translated the book to stage and felt it lacked direction. "
